What Caroline Read

Hi there and welcome!

I’m Caroline, a 25-year-old bookworm living in Greenwich with my fiancé, Jack, and my puppy, Leaf. I first moved to London from Copenhagen when I was 19 to take care of strangers’ babies and live in their houses and I never left. I recently graduated from UAL with a First-Class degree in Magazine Journalism & Publishing, a unique course exploring and perfecting skills in media studies, content production, journalism, media law and business management.

I’ve always been an avid reader. One of my earliest childhood memories is the time I memorised the whole Help I’m A Fish book and “read” it to my parents one evening when I was four years old. This is one of my mum’s favourite stories to tell people because it makes it sound like I was some kind of genius at the age of four when really, it just shows that the only thing I wanted to read was Help I’m A Fish… Anyway, I’ve always known I wanted to work with books, so publishing has been my dream industry for as long as I remember.

Day to day I read a lot of contemporary, realistic fiction. I also LOVE a great non-fiction read, where I can learn about a person’s struggles, culture, experiences, you name it. Learning about other people’s lives is one of my favourite things in life, which definitely comes across on my bookshelf. My favourite reads over the past few years have been Little Fires Everywhere, The Flatshare and Unfollow by Megan Phelps-Roper.

I’m extremely interested in, specifically, children’s publishing as literature plays such a vital part in a child’s upbringing, something I truly discovered when working with toddlers. One particular and big passions of mine is to ensure that children’s literature is as inclusive and diverse as possible, so everyone has someone they’re able to mirror themselves and relate to. This is the topic I wrote my award-winning BA dissertation on, focusing specifically on the representation of physical disability in picture books, and I would love the opportunity to be a part of an amazing team of people bringing children world-class, diverse literature.

Here are some random things about me for good measure: I love my puppy more than I ever thought was possible, I would sell my soul for a good caramel oat latte and I would rather watch documentaries than anything else. I also like long walks, tattoos and that autumn weather where everything is orange and wet but it’s still sunny, and I dislike snow, chickpeas and littering.

This blog is an extension of my Bookstagram account, and on here you’ll find proper short mini book reviews, general book chat, bookseller recommendations and possibly some other rambles about life.
